Leave the expensive, complex helpdesk behind.
If Zendesk or Freshdesk has grown too costly or carries far more than an email-first team needs, Solves is a smaller, UK-first home for support email. We are at pilot stage, so the move is founder-led: we set you up with forwarding-first mailboxes and migrate your saved replies by hand, while your old tool stays readable as an archive. A self-serve Freshdesk import is on the way.
Honest pilot note: there is no one-click historical importer today. We tell you exactly what moves now and what is coming.
The short answer
What moving to Solves looks like today
You do not need a risky data-migration project to leave Zendesk or Freshdesk. Because Solves is email-first, you switch by changing where your support email lands, not by lifting years of tickets across in one go. New mail starts in Solves the same day; your old helpdesk stays live as a read-only archive for as long as you want.
During early access the move is founder-led and honest about its limits. We help you set up each brand and mailbox with plain-English, forwarding-first steps, and we migrate your saved replies across by hand so your team keeps its tone and quick answers from day one. There is no automatic, one-click importer for historical tickets yet, and we will not pretend there is.
A self-serve Freshdesk import is in preparation. Until it ships, treat the move as a clean start in Solves with your incumbent kept as a backup record, plus direct help from us to get set up. For most small teams that is faster and lower risk than a heavyweight migration anyway.
No automatic import yet, and we will not pretend otherwise
Solves is at pilot stage. There is no live tool that pulls your historical Zendesk or Freshdesk tickets across by itself today, and a Freshdesk self-serve import is still coming. What we do now is set you up ourselves: forwarding-first mailboxes so new email lands in Solves immediately, and saved-reply migration by hand. Your old helpdesk stays readable as an archive throughout, so nothing is lost while you switch.
Why teams leave
Why small teams move off Zendesk and Freshdesk
The usual triggers are cost and complexity. Zendesk has no permanent free plan, and its UK Suite tiers rise steadily as you add agents and capabilities. Freshdesk historically offered an open-ended free tier but has narrowed its free programme to up to two agents for six months only, so a growing team soon faces a paid, per-agent bill. For an email-first business, much of what you pay for sits unused.
You are paying for channels you never switch on
Full helpdesk suites carry automations, customer portals, knowledge bases, chat, voice and social, plus the configuration to match. If your reality is answering email well across one or more brands, that breadth is weight, not value. Solves does one job: it turns shared inboxes into owned, timed tickets with replies, private notes, SLAs and multi-brand history, and stops there on purpose.
Per-agent pricing punishes helpers
Per-agent billing means the colleague who picks up overflow on a busy Monday costs a full seat. Solves uses GBP team bands instead, so you size the plan to the team and let helpers help without a per-seat penalty. Pricing is in GBP, ex VAT, with VAT-visible invoices, and first-response and resolution SLA timers built in.
A simpler tool your team actually finishes setting up
Complex platforms are easy to buy and hard to finish configuring. A smaller, focused desk is one your team can adopt fully: every email becomes an owned ticket with a clear state, an assignee, a priority and an SLA, and the saved queue views show New, Unassigned, Waiting, Snoozed, Breaching SLA, Resolved and All without a single rule to build.
What you land in
The email-first desk you move into
Owned email tickets
Every message becomes a ticket with a state, an owner, a priority and tags, so nothing slips between inboxes again.
Multi-brand in one queue
Run several brands from one login with per-brand mailboxes, brand badges and a guard against replying as the wrong brand.
Your saved replies, migrated
We bring your canned answers across by hand during early access, scoped per brand or shared across the organisation.
SLA timers
First-response and resolution timers, with per-brand or organisation targets in minutes, surface what is breaching.
Replies and private notes
A hard separation between public replies and internal notes, with a stale-reply guard so the right answer goes out.
Reports that matter
Open backlog, ageing, waiting, first response, resolution and created-vs-resolved, with brand filters, no report builder needed.
How the move works
A guided, forwarding-first switch in four steps
Book a guided migration
Tell us which brands and mailboxes you run today and what you want to move first. We plan a switch that starts small and keeps your old helpdesk as a read-only archive.
Set up brands and mailboxes
We walk you through forwarding-first mailbox setup with copyable, plain-English DNS steps. Live sending for a brand stays gated until its checks pass or a founder override is recorded.
Forward one address and pilot
Point a single support address at Solves so new email lands as owned tickets straight away. Run a real pilot on live mail before you move the rest.
Bring saved replies and the rest
We migrate your saved replies by hand and help you switch your remaining mailboxes over at your pace. Wind the incumbent down only when you are ready.
What moves, what waits
Exactly what comes across, and what does not yet
Being clear about scope is the point of a guided move. Here is what is shipped and happens now, and what is still coming, so there are no surprises.
What moves now
- New support email, the moment you forward a mailbox to Solves, arriving as owned tickets with states, owners, priorities and tags.
- Your saved replies, brought across by hand during early access and scoped per brand or organisation-wide.
- Your brands and per-brand sender identity, set up with guided, forwarding-first mailbox checks.
- Your team, with role presets, brand access and ticket-visibility scopes configured during setup.
What waits, and stays honest about it
- Automatic historical ticket import: not live today. A Freshdesk self-serve import is in preparation; keep your old helpdesk as the archive until then.
- Automations and routing rules, CSAT, a customer portal, a knowledge base, CSV export, merge and split, and a developer API: not shipped, so we never list them as part of the move.
If a heavyweight, automated migration of years of tickets is a hard requirement, Solves at pilot stage is not the right fit yet, and we will tell you so on the call rather than oversell it.
Honest comparison
Moving to Solves vs staying on a full suite
Where a guided move to Solves helps an email-first team, and where a broader platform remains the better fit.
| Solves | Zendesk or Freshdesk | |
|---|---|---|
| How you pay | GBP team bands, ex VAT | Usually per agent, per month |
| Permanent free plan | Paid Starter, not forever-free | Often a trial or a time-limited free window, not forever-free |
| Historical ticket import | Not live yet; guided clean start, archive kept | Available, with project effort |
| Saved-reply migration | By hand, done with you in early access | Self-serve, your effort |
| Channels beyond email | Email-first, none by design | Often chat, voice and social as add-ons |
This compares the model, not dated prices. For source-checked figures see the Freshdesk alternative and Zendesk alternative pages. Solves does not claim feature parity with a full contact-centre suite.
Email-first, on purpose
Solves handles support email: owned tickets, ownership, private notes, SLAs and multi-brand. It does not do live chat, phone or social inboxes. That focus is exactly why leaving a heavier suite can feel like relief rather than loss.
FAQ
Migration questions
Does Solves have an automatic Zendesk or Freshdesk importer?
Not yet. Solves is at pilot stage, so there is no self-serve importer that pulls your historical tickets across in one click today. A Freshdesk self-serve import is in preparation. For now, we move you in a founder-led way: guided mailbox setup so new email lands in Solves from day one, plus saved-reply migration done by hand. Your incumbent can stay readable as an archive while you switch over.
Why do teams leave Zendesk or Freshdesk?
The two most common reasons are cost and complexity. Zendesk has no permanent free plan and UK Suite tiers climb quickly, while Freshdesk recently narrowed its free programme to two agents for six months only, so growing teams hit a paid wall. Beyond price, both ship far more than an email-first team needs: automations, portals, knowledge bases and channels you may never switch on. Solves is deliberately smaller: owned email tickets, SLAs, multi-brand and reporting, priced in GBP team bands.
Will I lose my ticket history when I move?
No. You do not have to delete anything to start using Solves. Keep your current helpdesk live as a read-only archive while new email flows into Solves through forwarding-first setup. You get a clean start in Solves without throwing away the record in your old tool, and you can wind the incumbent down on your own timeline once you are comfortable.
How long does a guided move take?
Most of the work is mailbox setup and getting saved replies across, both of which we help with directly during early access. Forwarding new email to a Solves mailbox can be done the same day; verifying a domain for live sending depends on your DNS, but the plain-English steps are quick. There is no long data-migration project to plan, because we are not promising to lift years of tickets across automatically.
Can I run Solves alongside Zendesk or Freshdesk during the switch?
Yes, and we recommend it. Point one support address at Solves to start, keep the rest on your incumbent, and move the others over as you gain confidence. Because Solves is email-first and uses forwarding, you can run a real pilot on live mail without committing every brand and mailbox at once.
What does the move cost?
Solves is GBP team bands, ex VAT: Starter 29, Team 79, Growth 149 and Agency/MSP 299 per month, with annual billing priced as twelve months for ten. The first twenty early-adopter pilots get Team at GBP 49 a month for six months, then GBP 79, with setup help and saved-reply migration included. You are paying for a team band, not per agent.
