A small UK team, building support software worth standing behind.
Solves is a founder-led UK team at pilot stage. We are not running a hiring drive or padding out a careers page with roles we cannot yet fill. We would simply like to hear from thoughtful people in support and engineering who care about doing one thing well, so that when we are ready to grow, we already know who to talk to.
No open vacancies advertised today. Speculative hellos are genuinely welcome.
Where we are
Honest about size, honest about hiring
Solves is a small, founder-led UK team at pilot stage. That shapes everything on this page, including the parts most careers pages quietly skip.
We are not going to invent a headcount, a glossy office, a list of perks or a row of open roles to look more established than we are. The same house rule that governs the product copy governs this page: we describe what is real, not what would read well. Right now what is real is a tight team shipping an email-first support desk to early adopters, and a genuine openness to meeting people who might join as we grow.
So treat this as an invitation rather than a job board. If support software for small UK teams interests you, and the way we work sounds like your kind of work, we would rather start a conversation early than wait until a vacancy is urgent and rushed.
Who we will want
The kind of people we are likely to look for first
When we do bring people in, it will most probably be close to the work: helping customers, and building the product. Here is the sort of person each side suits.
Support
Someone who genuinely likes untangling a customer's problem and writing a clear, kind reply. Our whole product exists to make support work you can see and trust, so we care a lot about people who do support well: patient, precise, good in British English, comfortable owning a queue and a clock rather than hiding in a shared inbox. Experience running support for a small business or agency, especially across more than one brand, would feel right at home.
Engineering
Someone who is happy in a deliberately small, no-nonsense stack and takes the non-negotiables seriously: prepared statements only, CSRF on every mutation, tenant isolation, encryption at rest and metadata-only logs. We build server-rendered PHP with scoped CSS and light progressive enhancement, designed to move from SQLite to MySQL unchanged. If you like a narrow surface, clear rules and shipping things customers feel quickly, you would fit the way we work.
You do not need to match a tidy job description, because we have not written one. If your strength is somewhere near support or engineering, or somewhere genuinely useful next to them, tell us in your own words and let us judge the fit.
How we work
What working on Solves actually means
A few honest things about the day to day, so you can judge the fit before you write.
Truthful copy
We describe what is shipped, not what is planned, in the product and on this page. If we cannot stand behind a claim, we do not print it, and that discipline runs through the whole team.
Deliberately narrow
Email-first, with no chat, phone or social on the way. One job done properly for small UK teams, which means clear priorities and far less channel-chasing.
Security as a habit
Encryption at rest with per-organisation keys, authorised access only, and logs that carry metadata, never message bodies or addresses. It is built into how we work, not a checklist.
UK to the core
GBP ex VAT, British English and UK data residency throughout. We build for UK small and medium businesses, and we sound like it.
Accessible by design
We build towards the WCAG 2.2 AA target, with server-rendered pages and progressive enhancement, so the desk works for the whole team, not just the latest browser.
Close to customers
At pilot stage you are never far from a real early-adopter using what you ship. Feedback is direct, the loop is short, and your work is visible fast.
No fabricated roles, no fabricated promises
We are not advertising specific vacancies, salaries or perks today, and we will not invent them. If and when a role is real, we will describe it plainly, in pounds and in British English. Until then, a speculative hello is the right way in.
Saying hello
How to reach us when there is no listing
Write a short note
Use the contact page and tell us, briefly, what you do well and why email-first support software for small UK teams interests you. A few honest paragraphs beat a long generic application.
Add a link or a CV
Point us at your work, a profile or a CV if you have one. We are more interested in how you think and write than in a perfectly formatted document.
Hear back from a person
There is no recruitment team here, so a founder reads it. We will be honest about timing: we may not be hiring the week you write, but a good message is kept on file for when we are.
FAQ
Honest answers about working here
Are there any open roles at Solves right now?
We are not advertising specific vacancies at the moment, and we will not invent ones to look bigger than we are. Solves is a small, founder-led UK team at pilot stage. When we are ready to bring someone in, it will most likely be in support or engineering, and we would rather hear from a few thoughtful people early than post a long wish-list of roles we cannot yet fill. If that sounds like you, send us a speculative hello and we will keep it on file.
How do I apply if there is no listing?
Get in touch through the contact page and tell us, briefly, what you do well and why support software for small UK teams interests you. A short note and a link to your work or a CV is plenty. We read everything ourselves, because there is no recruitment team to pass it to, and we will be honest about where we are: we may not be hiring the week you write, but a good speculative message is never wasted.
Is the team remote or office based?
We are a small UK team and we work in a way that suits a small team, rather than to a fixed office policy we would have to dress up. We are not going to claim a headquarters, a floor plan or a list of perks we do not have. When a role is real, we will set out plainly how and where the work happens, in pounds and in British English, the same way we write everything else.
What is it actually like to work on Solves?
It is early-stage, narrow and honest. The product does one thing, turning support email into owned, timed, multi-brand work, and we hold a hard line on truthful copy, encryption at rest and metadata-only logs. That means fewer meetings about strategy decks and more shipping the thing in front of you, close to real early-adopter customers. It will suit someone who likes a small surface, clear principles and visible impact, and it will frustrate anyone looking for a large, settled organisation.
Do you work with contractors, freelancers or agencies?
Occasionally we may, for a specific, well-scoped piece of work, but we are not running an open programme for it and we will not pretend to. If you are a freelancer or a small studio whose work genuinely fits an email-first UK product, a short, specific message through the contact page is welcome. Please keep it relevant rather than a generic pitch, because at our size every message is read by a person who is also building the product.
Think you would fit a small UK team building this?
There is no application form and no closing date. Send a short, honest hello and tell us how you would help. No pressure, no recruitment funnel.
