The short answer

What ticket assignment is, and why it matters

A ticket assignment gives one support request a single owner: the person responsible for replying and seeing it through. It turns a message that anyone might pick up, or that everyone assumes someone else has, into work one named teammate owns. That single change is what stops requests being answered twice or quietly dropped.

In a shared inbox, ownership is implicit and fragile. Two people open the same email, one replies, the other does not know, and the customer gets two answers or none. Solves makes ownership explicit: every ticket has an assignee, an unassigned ticket is visible as work that still needs picking up, and the queue tells you at a glance who is handling what.

Assignment is a human decision in Solves, not an automated rule firing in the background. You assign a ticket to yourself when you pick it up, or to a colleague when it is their area, and you reassign just as easily when someone is off or a case needs different expertise. There is no routing engine to configure and no hidden logic to second-guess, so the queue stays predictable.

The saved views you work from

Rather than scrolling one long list, you work from saved queue views that each answer a specific question:

  • New: requests that have just landed and need triaging.
  • Unassigned: open tickets with no owner yet, so nothing is missed.
  • Waiting: tickets paused on the customer, where the clock is fairly stopped.
  • Snoozed: tickets set aside to resurface at the right moment.
  • Breaching SLA: work at risk against your response and resolution targets.
  • Resolved: closed-off requests, kept for history and reporting.
  • All: every ticket you are permitted to see, in one place.

Filters that narrow the queue to your job

Every view can be filtered without writing a single rule. Narrow by brand to focus on one identity, by mailbox to work a single support address, by assignee to see one person's load, by state or priority to triage, by tag to group similar requests, or by a free-text search across the queue. The filters combine, so "open, high priority, my brand, assigned to me" is a few clicks, not a saved query you had to build in advance.

Priority and tags, set by hand

Priority tells your team which tickets to reach first when several are open at once, and you set it on the ticket itself. Tags let you label requests by theme, refunds, delivery, billing, whatever fits your business, so you can filter the queue and later see patterns in reporting. Both are set by the person handling the ticket; Solves does not apply them automatically through rules, and it does not offer custom fields, so there is no schema to design before you can start.

Assignment, priority and tags also feed the saved views and reports. Reassign a ticket and it moves between assignee filters; mark something high priority and it stands out in triage; tag a wave of similar requests and the pattern shows up when you look back. A small set of clear, manual controls keeps a busy queue honest without any automation to misfire.

What you get

Clear ownership, fast triage, no rules to maintain

One owner per ticket

Assign each request to a single teammate, so there is always a clear answer to who is replying. The Unassigned view shows everything still waiting to be picked up.

Easy reassignment

Hand a ticket to a colleague when it is their area, or when someone is off. Reassigning takes a couple of clicks and moves the ticket cleanly between people.

Priority you set

Flag the requests that matter most so your team reaches them first. Priority is set on the ticket and shows up in views and reporting.

Tags for grouping

Label tickets by theme to filter the queue and surface patterns later. Tags are yours to define, with no custom-field schema to set up first.

Built-in saved views

New, Unassigned, Waiting, Snoozed, Breaching SLA, Resolved and All are ready from day one, so triage has structure without any setup.

Combine filters freely

Filter by brand, mailbox, assignee, state, priority, tag and search, together, to narrow any view to exactly the slice of work you want.

How it works

From a fresh email to an owned, prioritised ticket

A request becomes a ticket

A customer emails your support address as usual. Solves turns it into a ticket tagged to the right brand and mailbox, and it lands in your New and Unassigned views.

Assign and triage

Pick the ticket up or assign it to a colleague, set its priority, and add any tags. Now it has one owner and a clear place in the queue.

Work the right view

Use Breaching SLA to catch what is at risk, Waiting for what is back with the customer, and your assignee filter for your own load. Nothing relies on you remembering it.

In practice

What assignment and views look like day to day

Picture a Monday with thirty new tickets across two brands. Without ownership, that is a scrum: people skim the inbox, answer the easy ones, and the awkward queries linger because no one has claimed them. With Solves, the morning starts in the Unassigned view. The team shares out the new work, each ticket gets an owner and a priority, and within minutes the queue reads as a list of jobs with names against them, not a pile of unread mail.

Triage without a rules engine

Some helpdesks lean on automated routing: rules that try to assign tickets by keyword, sender or address. Those rules are powerful and brittle in equal measure, and a small team rarely has time to tune them. Solves takes the simpler path. A person assigns each ticket, and the Unassigned and New views guarantee that nothing falls through the gaps, so you get clear ownership without an automation to keep correcting.

Views that respect your brand boundaries

If you run more than one brand, the same views and filters keep each brand readable. Filter the queue to one brand to focus, or work across all of them at once. A teammate only ever sees the tickets they are permitted to see, so a saved view never leaks work from a brand they cannot access. The result is one queue that scales from a single mailbox to several brands without changing how anyone works.

Honest comparison

Manual assignment vs an automated routing engine

Where Solves keeps assignment simple and human, and where a heavier platform does more.

Solves Rules-based helpdesk
How tickets get an owner A person assigns or picks up each ticket Often automated routing rules
Saved queue views Built in, no setup Usually configurable, sometimes per plan
Custom fields on tickets Not offered, no schema to design Commonly available
Setup before you can triage None: views and filters work immediately Rules and fields often need building first
Predictability You always know why a ticket is where it is Depends on how rules are written

Competitor facts last verified 13 June 2026. Re-check the vendor's current plans before deciding.

Solves does not run an automated routing engine and does not offer custom fields. If you need rules-based auto-assignment or bespoke ticket fields at scale, a heavier platform is the better fit.

Assignment is a decision, not a rule

Solves keeps ticket ownership in human hands. A teammate assigns or picks up each ticket, while the New and Unassigned views make sure nothing is missed. There is no routing engine running in the background and no custom-field schema to maintain.

FAQ

Assignment and views questions

What is a ticket assignment?

A ticket assignment is the act of giving one support ticket a single owner: the teammate responsible for replying and seeing it through. Assigning a ticket changes it from a message anyone might pick up into work one person owns, so nothing is answered twice and nothing is left for someone else to notice. In Solves you assign or reassign with a couple of clicks, and the Unassigned view shows everything still waiting for an owner.

What does a support ticket mean?

A support ticket is a single customer request turned into a tracked item of work, with its own owner, state, priority, tags and history. Instead of an email sitting in a shared inbox where it can be read, half-answered and lost, a ticket carries everything about that request in one place. Solves creates a ticket from each inbound email and keeps the whole thread together.

How do you submit a support ticket?

For your customers, there is nothing to learn: they email your support address as they always have, and Solves turns that email into a ticket automatically. There is no portal to sign up for and no form to fill in. The ticket lands in your queue tagged to the right brand and mailbox, ready to be assigned, prioritised and replied to.

Can two people answer the same ticket by accident?

Assignment and the Unassigned view are designed to stop exactly that. Once a ticket has an owner, it is clear who is replying, and a stale-reply check warns if the conversation has moved on since you opened your draft, so you do not send a reply that has already been overtaken.

Do I have to set up routing rules to use the views?

No. The saved views and filters work out of the box, with no rules to configure. Solves does not run an automated routing engine that assigns tickets for you; a person assigns or picks up each ticket, and the Unassigned and New views make sure nothing is missed. That keeps the system predictable: you always know why a ticket is where it is.
