A simpler Freshdesk alternative for UK small teams.
Freshdesk is a capable, broad platform. If you are a small UK team that mostly answers support email, often for more than one brand, you may be paying per agent for channels you never use. Solves is email-first, multi-brand and priced in GBP team bands, and a guided Freshdesk import is coming for when you are ready to move.

Your queue
Every brand, owned, in one queue
Replace the shared inbox with owned tickets. Several brands sit in a single queue, each reply locked to the right sender, and the bill follows GBP team bands rather than a count of seats.
- Multi-brand queue with brand badges and filters
- GBP team bands, ex VAT, no per-seat penalty
- Owned tickets with states, priority and tags
The short answer
Who should switch, and who should not
Solves is a good Freshdesk alternative for a small UK team that has outgrown a shared inbox, answers support email for one or more brands, and would rather pay a sensible monthly band than a fee for every agent who occasionally helps out. If that is you, the rest of this page is for you.
Switch to Solves if
- You mostly work in email and want owned tickets, ownership, private notes and SLAs without a contact-centre rollout.
- You support more than one brand and want them in one queue with the right sender identity on every reply.
- You are a UK team and want GBP pricing, VAT-visible invoices and first-response and resolution SLA timers with a breaching view that surfaces overdue tickets.
- Per-agent pricing punishes the helper who picks up overflow on a busy Monday, and you want that to stop.
- You like that competitor figures here are dated and verifiable, not spun.
Stay on Freshdesk, or pick a broader platform, if
- Live chat, phone or social channels are core to how you support customers; Solves is email-first and does not offer them.
- You run a large support operation with many agents, deep automation and a published API today.
- You need features Solves has not shipped, for example a customer portal, knowledge base or CSAT surveys.
- You want a large third-party app marketplace; Solves keeps a small, honest integrations set on purpose.
In other words, the deciding question is rarely which tool has more features. It is whether you need a broad, multi-channel platform priced per agent, or a focused email-first desk that runs several brands for a flat GBP band. Pick the shape that matches your team, not the longest feature list.

Where each one fits
Freshdesk is the broader tool; Solves is the focused one
A fair comparison names the trade-off honestly. Freshdesk and Solves are not the same product, and the right choice depends on what your team actually does each day.
Where Freshdesk is the better fit
Freshdesk is a broad, established customer-support platform. If your team supports customers across live chat, phone and social as well as email, Freshdesk covers those channels and Solves does not. If you run a larger operation with many agents, deep automation, a published developer API and a big third-party app marketplace, Freshdesk is built for that scale. None of this is a knock on Freshdesk; it is simply a wider tool aimed at a wider job.
Where Solves wins for a small UK email team
Solves is narrower on purpose, and that focus pays off for a small team that mostly answers email. Multi-brand is core, not a top-tier add-on, so several brands share one queue with brand badges, brand filters and a hard guard against replying as the wrong brand. Pricing is GBP team bands rather than per agent, so the occasional helper does not cost a full seat. First-response and resolution SLA timers, with per-brand targets and a breaching view that surfaces overdue tickets, keep the work due soonest easy to find. Every piece of customer content is encrypted at rest with per-organisation keys, and logs are metadata-only.
The pricing shape is the real difference
Freshdesk charges per agent: Growth at USD 19, Pro at USD 55 and Enterprise at USD 89 per agent a month, billed annually, with no true forever-free tier (its Free programme is USD 0 for one to two agents for six months only). Solves charges by team band: Starter GBP 29, Team GBP 79 as the core tier, Growth GBP 149 and Agency/MSP GBP 299 a month, ex VAT, with annual billing priced as twelve months for ten. If your headcount flexes or part-timers pitch in, a band is usually kinder to the bill than a per-seat count.
Moving across without losing context (coming)
A guided Freshdesk import is coming. When it ships it will bring across contacts, saved replies, open tickets and their conversations into a brand you choose, with a preview before anything is committed, and private notes will stay private through the move. Until it lands we will help you plan your move from Freshdesk, and we already set up your saved replies for you by hand so the right wording is ready in each brand.
How a move actually goes
Switching from Freshdesk to Solves, step by step
A calm, reversible path. The guided import (steps 2 to 4) is coming; today our team helps you set up by hand, and you keep Freshdesk running until you are happy.
List your brands and mailboxes
Write down every support address you answer from, such as support@, info@ and accounts@, and which brand each one belongs to. In Solves you create a brand per identity and point each mailbox at it, so replies always go out as the right sender.
Connect Freshdesk for a preview (coming)
When the guided import ships, you will add your Freshdesk credentials, stored encrypted and never in plaintext. The import will then read your contacts, saved replies and open tickets with their conversations and show you a preview of exactly what will come across. Until then, we help you plan the move by hand.
Map data to the right brand (coming)
When the import ships you will choose which Solves brand each batch of tickets and saved replies should land in. Private notes will stay private through the move, and nothing will be written until you confirm. If the mapping looks wrong, you will be able to adjust it and preview again.
Commit, then redirect your email (coming)
When the import ships and the preview is right, you will commit it. Either way you update the forwarding or routing on your support addresses so new email arrives as Solves tickets. You can do this one mailbox at a time and keep Freshdesk open in parallel while you settle in.
Set SLAs and saved replies live
Turn on first-response and resolution SLA timers with per-brand targets, check your saved replies read well per brand, and resolve the last few Freshdesk tickets there. Once the backlog clears, you can close the Freshdesk account.
What Solves gives a small team
The email-first essentials, done well
Owned email tickets
Your shared inboxes become owned tickets with states from New through Open, Waiting for Customer and Snoozed to Resolved and Closed, plus priority and tags.
Replies and private notes
Public replies and private notes are hard-separated, so an internal note can never reach a customer, with a guard against stale replies.
Multi-brand queue
Several brands in one queue with per-brand mailboxes, brand-locked sending, brand badges and filters, and contact history grouped by brand.
See multi-brand supportSLA timers
First-response and resolution SLA timers, with per-brand targets, feed a breaching view that surfaces overdue tickets, and ageing reports.
Saved replies
Brand-scoped or organisation-wide saved replies keep the right tone and wording reaching the right customers.
Guided Freshdesk import (coming)
A guided import is coming: when it ships it will bring contacts, saved replies, open tickets and conversations into a chosen brand, with a preview before you commit. Today our team helps you set up by hand.
How the import will workFreshdesk is a capable platform
This page does not claim Solves matches Freshdesk feature for feature, and it does not. Freshdesk covers more channels and more scale. The point is fit: a small UK team that mostly answers email, often across brands, frequently does not need a broad per-agent platform. Compare the shape, not just the feature count.
FAQ
Freshdesk alternative questions
Which is better, Zendesk or Freshdesk?
Neither is universally better; it depends on team size and budget. Both are broad, multi-channel platforms billed per agent. Zendesk has no free plan, only a 14-day trial, with UK plans billed yearly from Support Team at GBP 15 to Suite Professional at GBP 89 per agent a month. Freshdesk has no true forever-free tier either; its Free programme is USD 0 for one to two agents for six months only, then paid plans run Growth USD 19, Pro USD 55 and Enterprise USD 89 per agent a month, billed annually. For a small UK team that lives in email and answers for more than one brand, a per-seat platform is often more than you need, which is why Solves uses GBP team bands instead.
Is Jira similar to Freshdesk?
They overlap but aim at different work. Jira Service Management is an IT and internal service-desk tool from the Jira family, strong on change, incident and request workflows for engineering and IT teams. Freshdesk is a customer-support helpdesk aimed at external customer enquiries across email, chat and phone. If you are answering customer support email for one or more brands, neither is a tidy fit for a small team; Solves is built for exactly that, email-first, with multi-brand support.
Who are the competitors of Freshworks?
Freshworks (which makes Freshdesk) competes with Zendesk, Help Scout, Zoho Desk, Front, Hiver, Intercom, HubSpot Service Hub and Jira Service Management, among others. Most are broad, multi-channel or per-seat platforms. Solves sits deliberately narrower: a UK-first, email-first, multi-brand support desk for small teams that have outgrown a shared inbox, priced in GBP team bands rather than per agent.
Is there a free Freshdesk alternative?
Solves offers a Starter at GBP 29 for three users, one brand, one mailbox and 1,000 tickets a month. It is paid from the start and meant for small teams, not a forever-free plan. Several other tools do run open-ended free tiers, for example Help Scout, Zoho Desk and Jira Service Management, so if forever-free is the priority those are worth a look. Freshdesk itself is not a forever-free option: its Free programme is USD 0 for one to two agents for six months only.
Can I move my Freshdesk data into Solves?
A guided Freshdesk import is coming. When it ships it will bring across contacts, saved replies, open tickets and their conversations into a brand you choose, with a preview before anything is committed, encrypted credentials, and private notes kept private through the move; you will review the preview, confirm the brand, and only then commit. It is not live yet, so it does not read your real Freshdesk data today. In the meantime we will help you plan your move from Freshdesk and we set up your saved replies for you by hand.
How does Solves price compare with Freshdesk for a five-person team?
It depends on which Freshdesk plan you would pick, but the shape is different. Freshdesk bills per agent, so five agents on Pro at USD 55 each is roughly USD 275 a month before any add-ons, billed annually. Solves bills by team band in GBP, so the same five people sit inside a single band rather than five seats, and an occasional helper who only picks up overflow does not add a full seat to the bill. Always re-check the current Freshdesk figures on the Freshworks pricing page, since they are quoted in US dollars and can change.
Will my customers notice the switch?
They should not. Replies still come from your own support addresses, with the right brand identity on each one, so the experience from the customer side is continuous. The guided import is coming, and when it ships it will carry over open tickets and their history so a conversation that started in Freshdesk can be answered in Solves without losing the thread. You can move one mailbox at a time and keep Freshdesk running in parallel until you are confident.
